Head Coach Jim Zauzig Announces His Retirement
January 23, 2012
Bearcat Football Head Coach Jim Zauzig is officially
announcing his retirement from varsity football today.
He will be meeting with the players today at HAHS to inform them
of his intentions. Coach Zauzig leaves as the all-time leading coach in
wins with a tally of 113 wins and 55 loses.
In the 15 years Jim was head coach he posted 13 winning seasons,
four Big Eight titles, one Mountain Athletic
Conference title, five District 6 titles, and he advanced as far as the
Western Finals in 1998. As the webmaster of this website that is sanctioned by
the Head Coach and his staff, I’d like to wish Jim well and say that he
will be greatly missed. It
has been a pleasure for me to be able to assist Coach Zauzig and his
staff for the last 15 years. With my “inside access” to the locker room I was able
to witness firsthand the inner workings of the Bearcat Football Program.
I witnessed Coach Zauzig not only coaching and motivating his
teams, but also taking an interest in their well-being and personal
lives. Coach Zauzig would
take disadvantaged players under-his-wing and push them in the right
direction when many of us would have turned our backs on such a
challenge. I witnessed Jim
spend most of his weekends each fall at the field house processing
films, washing and drying uniforms, creating scouting reports, dealing
with injuries, and performing many other under-appreciated tasks that
needed done. Coach Zauzig
poured his heart and soul into Bearcat Football. Jim said that it is time to move on, but he remembers
past head coaches telling him how they enjoyed retiring from the top
spot and rejoining the program at the junior high level.
His is open to the idea of teaching and coaching the younger
players in the junior high program if the new head coach is in need of
his services. Thank You Jim for all the great memories and thanks
for bringing Bearcat Football back to prominence these past 15 seasons!
